Well, that was fun. It's so good to be back. What better way to recap the 1st full week of CFB than with a classic winners and losers list. Let's get started! <h1>Winners</h1> <h2>USC + Miller Moss</h2> USC was dealing with a lot of change coming into this year. New conference, new QB. Miller Moss gave Trojan fans at least some reason to be excited when he threw for 6 touchdowns in the Holiday Bowl last year, but who really knew if that was gonna translate over a full season. This weeks performance certainly doesn't guarantee that it will, but the odds that he is a real dude are looking a lot better. Aside from Moss, we saw the USC defense hold what should be an explosive LSU offense, even with the departure of heisman winner Jayden Daniels and a handful of NFL receivers, to only 20 points. Lincoln Riley has always gotten the best out of his QB's, and now it looks like he might have a defense. I'm excited to see how the rest of the season plays out for the Trojans. <h2>Penn State + Drew Allar</h2> Last season was underwhelming one for the Nittany Lions. Former 5-star Drew Allar taking over at QB with arguably the best running back duo in the country in Kaytron Allen and Noah Singleton, supported by an elite defense. It looked like a recipe to compete for the CFP, but they just fell flat offensively time and time again. Fast forward to week 1 of this year, Penn State traveled to West Virginia for Big Noon kickoff. WVU is certainly not a powerhouse, but a good enough team to get an idea of how the Nittany Lions could project this year, especially considering the game was played on the road. They gave fans plenty to be excited about, with the defense still looking elite as ever, and a very solid showing from QB Drew Allar, throwing for 200+ yards and 3 touchdowns on only 17 attempts. <h1>Losers</h1> <h2>Brian Kelly</h2> The LSU Tigers are now 0-5 in their last 5 season openers, and 0-3 under Brian Kelly. There was a decent amount of roster turnover from last years squad, most notably on the offensive side of the ball with Jayden Daniels, Malik Nabers, and Brian Thomas Jr. Even still, LSU fans had plenty of reason to be excited about Garrett Nussmeier and company coming into this year. Unfortunately, as has been the story for much of Kelly's career, he just got out coached in a big game. It wasn't Garrett Nussmeier's fault, even if Kelly tried to pass the blame there. He needs to take a look in the mirror. <h2>DJU and Florida State</h2> It really is a tough time to be a Florida State fan. After being (rightfully, IMO) excluded from the CFB playoff, the Seminoles have now lost 3 straight dating back to last year and are 0-2 overall and in conference play after starting the season ranked top 10 in the AP. Unfortunately for them, it doesn't get easier from here on out, either. A season that started with CFP aspirations in the new expanded format is essentially dead at the start of September.
